Custom Cardboard Boxes in Canada

iCustomBoxes Canada makes custom cardboard boxes that protect your product and show off your brand. They work on a shelf, in the mail, or over a counter. We are a Toronto-based packaging maker. We print cardboard, corrugated, and rigid boxes in your size, shape, and finish, with your logo and artwork. Retailers, skincare and cosmetic brands, bakeries, and subscription-box companies all order from us. The right box does two things at once. It keeps your product safe, and it markets your business every time someone picks it up. Every order comes with no die or plate charges, and standard turnaround is 10 to 12 business days. Request a custom quote and our team will help you pick the right pack.

Why Choose Cardboard Boxes for Your Products

Cardboard boxes give you strength, low cost, and a clean print surface in one material. They hold their shape when stacked. They take bright, full-colour print. And they fold flat, so they cost less to store and ship. Cardboard is paper-based, so it is recyclable and biodegradable. That matters to many Canadian shoppers who check packaging before they buy. Cardboard also cuts into custom shapes with ease. You can match the box to your product instead of forcing your product into a stock size. For most retail and online brands, it is the most flexible and low-cost way to package almost anything.

Cardboard, Corrugated, or Rigid: Which Stock Fits Your Product

We use three stocks: cardboard, corrugated, and rigid. Each one suits a different job. Picking the right one keeps your product safe without paying for more box than you need.

Cardboard (Paperboard): One layer of thick paper stock, usually about 0.5 mm to 3 mm. It is light, prints well, and is the top pick for retail boxes, cosmetics, cereal, and other light goods. See our printed cardboard boxes for full-colour retail packaging.

Corrugated: Fluted layers sit between two liners to add cushioning and stacking strength. This makes it the right choice for shipping, heavier items, and fragile goods. For mail and courier orders, look at our corrugated cardboard boxes and corrugated mailer boxes.

Rigid: A thick board that does not fold, used for a premium feel. For a luxury unboxing, our rigid boxes are the step up from standard cardboard.

Here is a quick rule. If the box sits on a shelf, cardboard wins on print and cost. If the box travels through the mail or holds weight, corrugated protects better.

Standard Cardboard Stock and Thickness

Cardboard stock is measured two ways. GSM (grams per square metre) is the weight. Pt, or points, is the thickness, where one point equals a thousandth of an inch. A higher number in either one means a heavier, stiffer board. As a rough guide, divide GSM by about 25 to get points.

Most printed boxes use paperboard between 14pt and 24pt. The sizes go up in twos: 14pt, 16pt, 18pt, 20pt, 22pt, and 24pt. To picture it, 24pt board is about as thick as a credit card. In most cases, 16pt is the lowest weight that still holds its shape for a retail box. Heavier products move up from there. Here are the stocks we use most and where each one fits:

Stock Typical Weight Best For
White Cardboard (SBS) About 12pt to 24pt (roughly 300 to 450 gsm) Retail, cosmetic, and printed product boxes with a smooth white surface
Kraft About 12pt to 24pt (roughly 250 to 400 gsm) Natural, eco-friendly packaging with a brown, recycled look
Corrugated Single or double wall, graded by flute Shipping, heavier goods, and fragile items that need cushioning
Rigid (Chipboard) About 40pt to 80pt (roughly 1 mm to 2 mm) Luxury gift boxes and premium unboxing where the board should not fold

Not sure which weight suits your product? Send us the size and weight of what you are packing. Our team will suggest a stock and thickness. We will also send a free sample so you can feel the board before you order.

How to Choose the Right Cardboard Box

Start with your product. Then match the box to how it is stored, sold, and shipped. Four questions cover most choices:

How Heavy or Fragile is it? Light retail items are fine in single-wall cardboard. Heavier or breakable goods need single or double-wall corrugated.

Shelf, Ship, or Gift? Retail display suits smooth cardboard for print. Shipping suits corrugated. Gifting often calls for cardboard gift boxes or rigid stock.

Does it Need to Carry or Reseal? Add strength and ease with cardboard boxes with handle or cardboard boxes with lids.

What is Your Order Size? Our low minimum starts at 100 boxes. You can test a design before you commit to a bulk run of cardboard boxes wholesale.

Still unsure? Send us your product dimensions. Our design team will suggest a stock, wall type, and thickness at no charge.

Custom Cardboard Box Styles

You can order custom cardboard boxes in many styles. These include two-piece boxes, reverse and straight tuck-end, tray-and-sleeve, pillow boxes, gable boxes, and suitcase boxes. We also cut custom shapes with our die cut cardboard boxes when a standard style will not do. Match the style to how your product is shown and opened. Tuck-end boxes suit quick retail packing. Two-piece and lidded boxes give a more premium reveal. Gable or handled boxes make takeaway and gifting easier. Tell us your product and we will suggest a shape that protects it and looks right on the shelf.

Printing and Finishing Options for Cardboard Boxes

Cardboard takes print and finishing better than almost any packaging material. That is what lets you turn a plain box into branded packaging. We handle printing and finishing in-house, so your colours and finish stay the same from the first box to the last.

Printing Methods: We print with offset, digital, and screen printing. Offset gives sharp, even colour and is the best value for large runs. Digital printing suits shorter runs and quick turnarounds with no plate costs. Screen printing works well for bold, solid colours and simple logos. You can print in full-colour CMYK for detailed artwork, or match an exact brand colour with Pantone (PMS).

Laminations and Coatings: A surface coat protects the print and sets the look and feel of the box. Choose gloss for a bright, shiny finish, matte for a soft, modern look, soft-touch for a velvety feel, or spot UV to make one part of the design shine against a matte background. Aqueous coating adds a light layer that resists scuffs and fingerprints.

Embellishments: To make your branding catch the eye, add hot foil stamping in gold, silver, or colour. Add embossing to raise a design, or debossing to press it into the board. These finishes reflect the light and give the box a premium feel that flat print cannot.

Functional Add-ons: Finishing is not only about looks. Add die-cut windows to show the product, inserts to hold it in place, printed handles for easy carrying, or perforation for clean opening. Each one improves how the box works as well as how it looks.

Not sure which mix fits your brand and budget? Our design team will suggest printing and finishing options for your product. We will show them on a free digital mock-up before you commit.
