Why Scoop Shops Use a Printed Cone Sleeve
A bare cone gets cold in the hand within about a minute, and once it starts to melt the drips land on fingers. The custom packaging sleeves solves both. It puts a layer between the cone and the hand, and it catches the run-off at the point where most drips start.
The second job is branding. A cone leaves the counter and gets carried through a mall, a beach boardwalk or a summer festival. That is free visibility if your name is on the wrap. Most shops already pay for napkins and spoons. A sleeve costs a similar amount per serve and does something for you.
Standard Cone Sleeve Sizes
Sleeves are cut to fit the cone, not the other way round. Send us two of your cones and we cut a die to match. These are the fits we run most often for Canadian shops:
| Cone Type |
Typical Cone Size |
Sleeve Fit |
Best For |
| Cake or wafer cone |
2.5" top, 4" tall |
Short wrap, low taper |
Kids' scoops, soft serve |
| Sugar cone |
2.25" top, 4.5" tall |
Narrow taper |
Single scoop, gelato |
| Waffle cone |
3" top, 5" tall |
Standard tapered wrap |
Double scoop, most shops |
| Jumbo waffle cone |
3.5" top, 6" to 7" tall |
Tall wrap, wide mouth |
Triple scoop, loaded cones |
| Crepe or churro cone |
4"+ top, 8"+ tall |
Deep wrap, greaseproof |
Crepes, churros, savoury fills |
The taper matters more than the height. A sleeve cut for a straight-sided cake cone slides off a waffle cone, and one cut too tight tears when a busy server pushes the cone through.
Stock That Survives a Freezer
This is where cheap cone sleeves fail. A cone comes out of a display case or a warm room into a customer's hand, and condensation forms on the outside of the paper within seconds. Uncoated cardstock goes soft, the ink smudges and the sleeve collapses.
We run cone sleeves on:
- Wet-strength food-grade paperboard, 14pt to 18pt, which holds its shape when damp
- Kraft for shops running a natural or eco look, with the same wet-strength treatment
- Greaseproof-coated stock for churros, crepes and hot savoury cones
- E-flute corrugated where you want extra insulation on very cold product
All stock is food-safe. Printing uses food-grade inks, and the coating sits on the outer face where the artwork is.
Printing and Finish Options
Print in CMYK or match a Pantone for a house colour. One side or both. The inside face is worth using, since customers see it as the cone comes out. Shops print a flavour list, a loyalty QR code or a short thank-you there.
Available finishes:
- Gloss, matte or soft-touch lamination
- Aqueous coating
- Spot UV, foil stamping, embossing and debossing
- Die-cut windows and shaped tops
- Perforation so the sleeve tears down cleanly as the customer eats
Sleeves ship flat with a glue tab or a peel-and-seal adhesive strip. Your team wraps and seals in one motion. Ask for the pre-glued option if service speed matters, because assembly time adds up across a 400-cone Saturday.
More Than Ice Cream
Cone sleeves work on anything served in a cone. Canadian operators use them for gelato, soft serve, snow cones, frozen yogurt, churros, crepes, cotton candy and savoury cones holding fries or popcorn chicken.
If you serve fries in a cone at a festival stand, look at our custom fries boxes too. For counter service where the cone needs to sit upright while you add toppings, pair the sleeve with an ice cream cone holder.
Room for the Details Canada Requires
If you sell packaged cones through retail rather than serving them over a counter, the sleeve is a practical place for the ingredient list, allergen statement and bilingual English and French label copy. There is more printable area on a cone sleeve than on most wraps, and changing that copy is a reprint of paper rather than a change to your containers.
Eco Options
Kraft and uncoated wet-strength board are recyclable, and we carry FSC-certified stock on request. Ask about it when you quote if sustainability messaging is part of your brand. Our eco friendly boxes uses the same stocks.
