Custom hemp boxes are printed paperboard, corrugated or rigid boxes made to fit hemp wellness products: hemp seed oil, tinctures and oils, topicals and pre-rolls. iCustomBoxes Canada, a Toronto-based packaging manufacturer, builds them to your exact dimensions. Orders start from 100 boxes, carry no die or plate charges, and ship 10–12 business days after artwork approval.

The right box depends on two things: product weight, and whether the product contains cannabinoids. Hemp seed products can take any print finish. Products containing CBD or hemp flower are regulated as cannabis in Canada and need child-resistant, plain packaging.

Custom Hemp Box Styles for Tinctures, Oils, Topicals and Pre-Rolls

Tuck End Boxes (STE/RTE)

Tuck end boxes suit lightweight bottles, such as 30 ml and 60 ml hemp seed oil dropper bottles. A straight tuck end (STE) closes both flaps toward the back panel, keeping the front face clean. A reverse tuck end (RTE) closes them in opposite directions and costs less to produce. Both ship flat; our custom tuck boxes cover other closures.

Auto-Lock Bottom (Snap Lock) Boxes

Auto-lock bottom boxes have a pre-glued base that locks when the box is opened, so the floor holds weight without tape. Use them for heavy glass jars, 100 ml bottles and multi-packs of two to six units.

Child-Resistant (CR) Boxes

Child-resistant boxes use a lock, such as a push-button slide or tamper-evident tab, that young children find hard to open. Under the Cannabis Regulations, the immediate container of any CBD or hemp-flower product must be child-resistant. CR structures are available on request; name the standard your licence requires when you ask for a quote.

Slide (Drawer) and Sleeve Boxes

A slide box is a tray that pulls out of an outer sleeve. It holds pre-roll tubes, sampler sets and gift kits, and can be built with a child-resistant lock. Hemp pre-rolls are cannabis products, so their boxes follow the plain-packaging rules below.

Counter Display Boxes for Hemp Wellness Products

Counter display boxes are open trays with a raised header panel, sized for a counter or shelf beside the till. They hold 6–24 units of hemp lip balm, hemp seed oil roll-ons or hemp protein bars sold in general retail.

Printing Methods and Finishes for Hemp Packaging

Digital printing needs no plates, so it suits short runs, test batches and SKUs that change by strength or flavour. Offset (lithographic) printing gives tighter colour control, including Pantone matching, and a lower unit cost on larger runs.

Finishes include matte, gloss and soft-touch lamination. Special add-ons:

  • Spot UV and metallic foil stamping
  • Blind embossing and debossing
  • Custom die-cut windows
  • Molded EVA foam or paperboard custom packaging inserts that keep dropper bottles upright and apart

These add-ons apply to hemp seed products; cannabis product containers can't use them.

Custom Hemp Boxes and Canadian Regulations

Canada splits hemp products into two regulatory groups, and the group decides how your box can look.

Hemp seed products (Industrial Hemp Regulations): Hemp grain and its derivatives, including hemp seed oil, fall outside the Cannabis Act. Since amendments in force March 12, 2025, they can be sold and processed without a licence. Full branding and every finish are allowed.

CBD and hemp-flower products (Cannabis Act): Health Canada regulates CBD as cannabis whether it comes from hemp or marijuana. Its packaging and labelling guide requires a child-resistant container in one uniform colour, with no metallic or fluorescent colours, no embossing and one brand element on the label only.

For CBD tinctures and topicals, see our CBD packaging boxes. The licence holder remains responsible for final compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions about us

What are hemp boxes used for?

Hemp boxes package hemp seed oil, tinctures, topicals, pre-rolls and other hemp wellness products for retail and shipping. They protect glass bottles, carry required label information and show your branding where regulations allow.

Do hemp products need child-resistant packaging in Canada?

Only products containing CBD or hemp flower. Those are cannabis under the Cannabis Act and need a child-resistant immediate container. Hemp seed oil and other hemp seed products don't.

What's the difference between hemp boxes and CBD boxes?

Hemp boxes usually hold hemp seed products, which can use full branding and decorative finishes. CBD boxes hold cannabis products and must follow Health Canada's plain-packaging and child-resistant rules.

What size box fits a 30 ml dropper bottle?

A 1.5 × 1.5 × 4.5 in tuck end box fits most 30 ml dropper bottles with the cap attached. Measure your bottle's diameter and full height first, since dropper caps vary.
