Why Most Taco Packaging Boxes Fail: The Soggy Shell Problem?
Hot tacos release steam. In a sealed box, that steam has nowhere to go, so it condenses on the lid, drips back down, and softens the shell. Twelve minutes into a delivery run the crunch is gone and the customer blames the kitchen.
Two things fix it, and we build both into the die line:
Vent holes. Small perforations in the lid or upper side panel let steam escape without letting heat drop off a cliff. We place them over the shells, not over the toppings, so nothing dries out.
A grease-resistant food-grade coating. This is applied to the inside face so oil from the meat and cheese does not wick through the board. Without it you get a dark stain on the outside of a printed box in about ten minutes, which is the fastest way to make good food look cheap.
Custom Taco Box Styles: Holders, Carriers and Clamshells
Two-Slot and Three-Slot Taco Holder Boxes
Die-cut cradles inside the base hold each shell upright and separated. Filling stays in the taco instead of the bottom corner. This is the style most taquerias and food packaging boxes.
Four and Six Count Taco Carrier Boxes
For family orders and catering. Add a folding handle if your staff carry them out to curbside.
Clamshell Taco Boxes
One-piece hinged lid, fast to close with one hand at the pass. Good for a busy line where every second matters.
Sleeve-Style Single Taco Holders
An open paperboard cradle for street-style service and events. Cheap per unit, high print visibility, easy for a customer to eat from while standing.
Taco Combo Meal Boxes
One compartment for tacos, one for rice, beans or chips. Fewer containers per order and lower packaging cost overall.
Corrugated Taco Trays for Catering
For 12, 18 or 24 count party orders that need to survive a car trip.
Have a taco that does not fit any of these? Send a photo of it plated. We will draw a die line to match.

Measure a filled taco at its widest point, add roughly 5 mm of clearance, and tell us the number. Guessing on internal height is the most common ordering mistake we see. A shell that touches the lid is a shell that gets crushed.
Kraft, Cardboard and Corrugated Taco Boxes
- Kraft Taco Boxes: Brown, uncoated outside, unbleached, and it reads as honest food. Popular with taquerias and food trucks. Print looks best in one or two solid colours since the brown ground shifts everything.
- White Cardboard Taco Packaging (SBS Paperboard):Â Smooth clay-coated face, the best surface for full-colour photography and bright brand colours. This is what most chains use.
- Corrugated Taco Boxes for Bulk and Catering: E-flute or B-flute for catering trays and bulk orders. Stacking strength for stacked delivery bags and cold weather transport.
We do not recommend rigid boxes for hot food. They are made for cosmetics and gifting, they cost more, and the paper wrap will stain. If a supplier is selling you rigid taco packaging, ask why.
All food-contact stock is paper-based and recyclable. Grease-soaked board belongs in organics rather than blue bin in most Ontario municipalities, and printing that line on the box is a small thing customers notice.
Custom Printed Taco Boxes With Your Logo
- Offset and digital CMYK printing, full bleed
- PMS colour matching for brand accuracy
- Matte or gloss finish on the outside face
- Spot UV, foil stamping, embossing and debossing for premium menu lines
- Food-grade coating on the inside face
- Windows, handles, and custom perforations
Print your logo, your Instagram handle, your salsa heat scale, or a QR code to the loyalty signup. Delivery orders put your box in a customer's hands with no server, no signage and no music. The box is the whole brand experience for that meal.
